Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Lowepro Ridge 30 Camera Case (Black)Customer Review: Buyer Beware Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this case based on a lot of great customer reviews. Before I get to the cons on this case, let me say 2 things. 1:I own 4 other Lowepro camera cases and love them! 2: Many reviewers write based on their experience with only one model of an item. Go read the reviews on monopods; you will see alot of "I love shooting with this monopod. Shots that used to come out blurry are now clear" They haven't told you anything about THIS monopod because they have never used a different model to compare it to. They just let you know using a monopod can be a help in taking photos. Yes, having any case is better than no case at all. OK, I have tried my Lumix zs3 in 4 cases. This is the worst. Yes, the zs3 fits just fine and yes, the construction is as solid as everyone says. What makes this case inferior to the Lowepro Rezo 30 is threefold. 1] You have to undo your belt to get this on; forget about putting it on a backpack strap. Read the Rezo 30 reviews to learn about how they attach. After 3 years plus with my Rezo 15, I can tell you it's bombproof and much easier to use. 2] The Ridge 30 has ONE zipper head, The Rezo 30 has 2 heads. With two you can position one partway up the left or right side and bring the other to meet it. With one head, you have to start from the bottom on the side they chose for you.3] The big flap protects your extra batteries, etc but NOT the main compartment with the camera. So if you want fast and secure access to your extra batteries, cards, etc while having slow, clumsy yet secure access to your camera, go ahead and buy this case. If you want fast, secure access to your camera dont even think about it. The Rezo 30 shares this flaw. No one is making a case with the spare stuff in back and fast access to the camera. I am using a Duluth Trading Company [.com]walkie talkie case when I want fast access to the camera. This requires me to carry spares elsewhere. This is a pain, but I know I need the spares. I am using a Rezo 50 to carry everthing together; the front accessory pocket has a zipper so I can cut off the big honking flap. The Rezo 30 has no front zipper; you're stuck with the flap. Why have a flap to protect spares but not the main item? Don't tell me the extra padding helps. By the time something slams into you hard enough to hurt the camera in ANY decent case, you need an ambulance anyway. This product was very poorly thought through by a company which usually does much better. Its too bad that so many reviewers gave a positive review without looking at what else is out there. Happy Hunting!
